Modify for your own use; these are specific instructions to produce the icon below. If you are confused, let me know via e-mail!

ONE. Paste the base into a new Photoshop document. Make sure the setttings are 100 pixels by 100 pixels, with a Transparent background, and RGB mode.
TWO. Make sure you only have the base (Layer 1) and then go to Filter >> Sharpen.
THREE. Duplicate the base into a new layer (Layer 2). Set it to Screen at 30%.
FOUR. Create a new layer. Use the Paint Bucket tool to fill the layer with #FF7FBB. Set this layer (Layer 3) to Overlay at 30%.
FIVE. Make another new layer (Layer 4). Use the Paint Bucket tool to fill the layer with #FF8400. Set this layer to Overlay at 30%.
SIX. Duplicate the base again and paste it into a new layer (Layer 6). Set it to Screen at 20%.
SEVEN. Merge all visible layers (Layers >> Merge Visible), save, and voila! You should end up with something like this:
